Product details

This range of LPCB-approved cables, which is sometimes simply referred to as Mineral Insulated cable or MI cable, is available for light-duty applications with a voltage rating of 500V and high-duty applications with a voltage rating of 750V. MICC are manufactured by placing copper rods inside a copper tube and filling out the remaining space with magnesium oxide insulation, an inert and inorganic material. These cables are also available with a low smoke zero halogen outersheath for improved resistance against copper corrosion of the sheath. MICC have high durability due to the mechanical and electrical properties of the materials used. They have a wide operation temperature range and they are waterproof, making them suitable for installation in some of the most challenging environments.

In addition to safety critical applications, these high temperature mineral insulated copper cables are ideally suited for specific applications, such as instrumentation for nuclear reactors as the magnesium oxide provides resistance to ionizing radiation, They are also used in industries processing or handling flammable liquids where the power or control cables would be at risk of damage in the event of a fire.

Examining report

Mineral Insulated Cables are used to provide circuit integrity for power and control circuits of critical equipment such as:

    1. ·Hospital operating rooms

    2. ·Air pressurisation system for stairwells

      ·Fire alarm systems

      ·Emergency power systems、Emergency lighting systems

      ·Sprinkler systems

    3. ·Public buildings e.g. theatres, cinemas, hotels, schools

  •
    1. · Tunnels and mines

    2. · Temperature measurement devices; RTD's, thermocouples

      · Close to or inside industrial foundries, kilns

      · Hazardous areas where flammable gases may be present

    3. · Transport hubs - railway stations, airports etc

MI cable is the best choice for building fire safety line laying

BS 6387: Cable Fire Test

Fire Performance BS 6387 Performance Requirements for Cables Required to Maintain Circuit Integrity under Fire Conditions. This standard details the following tests to categorise cables according to their fire withstand capabilities.

  • Resistance to Fire

The cable is tested by exposure to gas burner flames while passing a current at its rated voltage.

Four survival categories are defined in the Performance Table below.

    • Symbol condition
    • A650°C for 3 hours
    • B750°C for 3 hours
    • C 950°C for 3 hours
    • D950°C for 20 minutes

  • Resistance to Fire with Water

A new sample of cable is exposed to flames at 650°C for 15 minutes whilst passing a current at the rated voltage and then the spray is turned on to give exposure to both fire and water for a further 15 minutes.

The grade results are as follows:

    • Symbolcondition
    • W650°C for 15 minutes

  • Resistance to Fire with Mechanical Shock

The final requirement is mechanical shock damage. A fresh sample of cable is mounted on a backing panel in an S-bend and is exposed to flames whilst the backing panel is struck with a solid steel bar the same diameter as the cable under test every 30 seconds for 15 minutes.

Whilst the cable has been exposed to temperatures as defined in the Performance Table below.

    • Symbolcondition
    • X650°C for 15 minutes
    • Y750°C for 15 minutes
    • Z950°C for 15 minutes

Beyond The Standard

Sunwin MI Cable can easily comply and withstand the most onerous categories of C, W and Z using one single Cable Sample
